Match fixing has plagued the football industry for decades and is certainly still an issue in lower and mid-level leagues with fixers often using grooming techniques along with offers of gifts or money to players who cooperate. As recently as 2023, Operation Penalidade Maxima in Brazil investigated players involved in fixing actions like penalties and yellow cards.

Meanwhile, in the top leagues, football authorities such as FIFA and UEFA work closely with betting companies to monitor and prevent suspicious patterns of behaviour that could be a result of match fixing. Has this partnership put an end to the problem in the top leagues or do you think it still goes on?
